A compelling performance from Alexis Kendra is giving this psycho sexual thriller just enough depth and charisma to make this a solid watch. Not that it's the only good aspect about goddess of love, but it's by far its strongest element. She's vicious, quietly agressive and sexy and she entirely nails the role.

In a few scenes it really shows that this wasn't an expensive production, as the color grading (or the lack of it) seems a bit off, although most of the scenes that were filmed inside looked surprisingly moody and stylish. It became a bit problematic when the camera had to deal with natural light outside. Nothing to be too concerned about though.

    The plot isn't anything special,…

  • Review by Raventomb ★★★★

Buried beneath several layers of colourful eye shadow, some overwrought set pieces, and a captivating lead performance by Alexis Kendra in the titular role, you'll find that there isn't really anything too innovative about this take on a woman loosing her marbles as a result of the machinations of some idiotic men.
Regardless, it stings in all the right places, and its certainly compelling enough to rub shoulders with the best of its ilk, in that tortured and tragic corner of storytelling set aside for movies about scorned women, and the lengths they'll go to in order to seek retribution.

  • Review by Travis Lytle ★★½

Jon Knautz's "Goddess of Love" feels like a 49-cent video rental, and that is a compliment. The micro-budgeted thriller blends a touch of the tawdry and the exploitative to feel like a no-pedigree work that may have picked up off the grocery store VHS rental shelves of the '90s. Its impact may be decidedly modest, but it supplies some mediocre charms.

Built around a woman whose tryst with a man leads to all manner of scorn-induced catastrophe, "Goddess of Love" sees its protagonist committing untamed acts of vengeance. As her life spins out of control, certain icy truths are revealed.

The story is a bit routine but compellingly straddles the line between horror and drama. Shots are lavish and artfully composed, and the cast does its job.

"Goddess of Love," again, supplies little true impact. It is, however, engaging enough in its art-meets-character-meets-gothic sensibilities to nearly crest the level of interesting mediocrity.

  • Review by Rich Trash🗑️ ★★★½

Sure, the psychotic woman trope has been used to death but none of the other movies have Alexis Kendra. She is key in making this work. Not only did she star in Goddess of Love but she co-wrote and produced the movie. While her behind-the-scenes activity is excellent, she shines in every scene that she is in, which is almost every scene of the movie.

The story follows a drug-addled stripper who falls for one of her customers. As expected, things escalate in an erotic thriller kind of way. What was unexpected was the horror elements. Her withdrawals make the perfect horrific madness as she hears things and sees things that aren't there. I watched this with headphones and I…

  • Review by Andy Lunn ★★★

This is an odd one, and definitely a movie of two halves. For the first half, we are treated to endless shots of the lead actresses body. The director obviously digs this girl, but it was a little ridiculous.

However, once she started to descend into full on psycho, the movie really picked up. Venus is on screen pretty much the whole running time, and it's really a heart and soul (and body) performance from her in the latter stages. The twist is insanely obvious, unless you've never watched a movie in your life; but it's a good ride nonetheless.

I had to delete this review and to put it again cause a stupid user did a stupid comment as a stupid person...of course...My apologies to all people that put a like in the now deleted review.
    Watchable...
It could have more sexiness in the sex scenes and in the scenes in the strip club.
I know the actress has a nice body but I think she couldn't be sexy enough..at least in my point of view.
And yes..I think this movie could have more potential with more sensuality.

Note: I think it was too gross the main character biting her nails and then spitting it while she was in her car...

  • Review by Irreversible ★★★

I had to wait an hour after having finished Goddess of Love to decide what I thought about it. I have no clue if that is a good or a bad thing and the grade probably reflects that.

There's no secret that I like films with lots of skin and this is one of those films. That's a good thing! Also, some of the imagery is quite accomplished, even though it stinks of low-budget-a-lot-of-effort-have-gone-into-the-post-production. Someone have really gone through a lot to try to get this story to come off as intricate and unpredictable, and maybe therein lie the greatest reason for my dubiousness. I can't decide if it is or not.

In connection to that one of the major…

2019 A History of Horror Challenge

    Week 38 Women-Made Horror
    Progress: 21/52

Alexis Kendra pulls triple duty by starring in this and also getting a writing and producing credit, so while she isn't the director, I'd certainly say this qualifies as women-made. She plays a particularly disturbed young lady, who struggles with booze, drugs, and romance. Her past isn't really delved into too much but she clearly had a bit more of a prestigious past as a dancer but has now found herself stripping. She falls in love with one of her customers and when the relationship doesn't pan out she really loses it.

I was pretty impressed with her performance - she definitely played the overly obsessive type really…

Ummmm, this is hot! Not quite true horror, but worth watching for the goddess alone. Love hurts, madness reigns, sh*t goes down. As the saying goes – "Hell hath no fury". Major love heart eyes!

  • Review by John (Magic Rat Movies) ★★★

A most fatal attraction. A dark, disturbing descent into delirium and mental decay. Alluring Alexis Kendra’s Venus is far from (h)armless. A solid psycho scorned tale of unhinged retribution, which certainly meets its intended audience’s exploitation expectations, serving up a steady stream of sex and violence throughout. Well made, watchable sleaze.

  • Review by PacificNil ★½
